Today’s expedition was to EcoLuxe – in the words of the Director: “A showcase for the more luxurious end of the ethical and sustainable fashion market.”
I was particularly interested in checking out this event as previously I’d only heard of Estethica fronting the ethical fashion movement and also because the luxury knitwear brand Izzy Lane are showcasing some of my designs!
As a not-for-profit venture, EcoLuxe has given smaller brands a more affordable opportunity to showcase their work in contrast to the more well-known and more publicised platform that Estethica provides but it was also apparent that the luxury and ethical criteria was somewhat flexible. From its first show in 2010 EcoLuxe has gone from strength to strength and definitely has great potential, but could benefit greatly from a little polishing around the edges to make it as slick as its competition and project the luxury image its after.
I’ve discovered a good selection of brands, which I will highlight individually in forthcoming posts.
